About the Artwork
Josh Muir draws on his own connection to Country and takes inspiration from Indigenous motifs and markings. Bird motifs are often featured to illustrate the richness of historic and contemporary Indigenous knowledge and to facilitate the sharing of culture and exchange of stories.
About the Artist
Josh Muir is a proud Yorta Yorta/ Gunditjmara man. Josh Muir is a Ballarat based multi media artist who produces panels printed on metal inspired by street art and hip-hop.
In 2015 Muir was the recipient of the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award – Youth award and in 2016, Muir completed the 12 month Hutchinson Indigenous Fellowship and Residency at the Victorian College of the Arts. Muir’s work has been acquired by the Koorie Heritage Trust, The National Gallery of Australia, Bendigo Art Gallery, the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, the National Gallery of Victoria and was commissioned as a major project artist by White Night.
