About the Artist: Cedric Varcoe

Cedric Varcoe is a proud Ngarrindjeri artist from South Australia. His paintings tell the creation stories of his ancestral lands and waters, stretching from the Lower River Murray and Lakes to the Coorong, South Coast, and Kangaroo Island.

He began painting at age eight, inspired by his family, and developed a unique style featuring bold forms and cultural symbolism. Over his career, Cedric has contributed to community art projects across regional South Australia, exhibited nationally, and completed significant public works, such as a mural at the Port Pirie Police Station designed to inspire young people.

Supported by Better World Arts, Cedric’s designs are showcased in galleries and reproduced on a wide range of ethical products, from textiles to ceramics. His artworks are held in both private and public collections in Australia and overseas. He has twice won the Port Augusta Malka Art Prize (2010 and 2014).
