About the Artist: Barbara Weir
Barbara Weir is a celebrated Aboriginal artist from the Utopia region of Central Australia. Born to the late Minnie Pwerle and raised by her aunt, the renowned Emily Kame Kngwarreye, Barbara endured removal from her family at age nine as part of the Stolen Generations.
In her twenties, Barbara reunited with her family and reconnected with her culture, language, and Country. Her art expresses this journey of resilience and reconnection. Today, she is recognised internationally for her dynamic works, which honour Utopia’s cultural heritage and stories.
Her paintings are exhibited widely and held in major public and private collections, cementing her as one of Australia’s leading contemporary Aboriginal artists.
