About the Artist and Artwork
Delvine Petyarre is a renowned Australian Aboriginal artist known for her mesmerising and vibrant contemporary artworks. Born in 1973 in Utopia, a remote region in Central Australia, Delvine belongs to the Anmatyerre and Alyawarre Aboriginal communities.
Growing up in a family of accomplished artists, including her aunt, the late Emily Kame Kngwarreye. Delvine was exposed to the rich artistic traditions of her cultural heritage from an early age. She began experimenting with various art forms, initially exploring batik and fabric design before transitioning to painting on canvas.
Delvine’s artistic style is characterised by her exquisite use of colours of her choosing, intricate dot work, and organic motifs inspired by the landscapes, Dreamtime stories, and ancestral connections. Delvine has painted dots which are hills and rivers that continually divide and come together throughout her country, Alhalkere in the Utopia Region, North East of Alice Springs.
