About the Artwork
This design depicts Mayiwalku’s ngurra — her home Country — showing the red sandhills (tali), trees and vegetation (warta), and water sources her family camped at. The artwork reflects deep connection to Country and the landscape of the Western Desert.
About the Artist
May Mayiwalku (May Wokka) Chapman is part of the Martumili Artists collective, a renowned group of Martu artists from the Pilbara region of Western Australia. Martumili Artists represents Traditional Custodians of vast stretches of the Great Sandy, Little Sandy, and Gibson Deserts, as well as the Karlamilyi (Rudall River) area. Her work draws on a strong lineage of Aboriginal art history, reflecting both ancient knowledge and contemporary creative practice.
