Josh Muir is a proud Yorta Yorta/ Gunditjmara artist who lives and works in Ballarat, Victoria.
Muir draws together elements of his Australian Aboriginal heritage, personal history and contemporary narratives and presents them through vibrantly coloured digital prints that pays homage to the dynamic traditions of street art and hip-hop. Â
In 2015, Muir was the recipient of the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award – Youth award. His career went on to boom as he was commissioned for a major projection project in the renowned White Night event series. His work ‘Still Here’ was projected onto the facade of the prestigious National Gallery of Victoria as part of White Night Melbourne.
Josh’s work is included in numerous public institutions and private collections including the Koorie Heritage Trust, The National Gallery of Australia (NGA), Bendigo Art Gallery, the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory (MAGNT) and the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV).

THE ‘BIRD’ COLLECTION
Josh Muir draws on his own connection to Country and takes inspiration from Aboriginal motifs and markings.
The ‘Bird’ collection is based on the artwork, ‘BIRD’ by Josh Muir. Bird motifs are often featured in Josh’s artwork to illustrate the richness of historic and contemporary Aboriginal knowledge and to facilitate the sharing of culture and exchange of stories.
